PG-13 2011 | 113 mins | Drama Musical
Big City Teen meets Small Town Girl. He'd ask her to the school dance, except for one thing: dancing's illegal. And that's when Big City Teen teaches the rest of the kids to fight for their right to boogie. Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough star in this remake of the ‘80s favorite, updated with just the right blend of fresh moves and retro tunes.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. Moving south: like the original, this version of Footloose is set in the small town of Bomont -- but it's in Georgia instead of Utah.
  2. Back to the drawing board: both Zac Efron and Chace Crawford had been attached to star as Ren before Kenny Wormald landed the role.
  3. A leg up on the competition: professional dancer Julianne Hough won the role of Ariel on a short list that included Hayden Panettiere, Miley Cyrus and Amanda Bynes.
  4. Go Cardinals! The movie was partly filmed at R.L. Osborne High School in Marietta, Georgia.
  5. In the movie, Ren is pulled over by a policeman wearing the name tag "H. Ross" -- a shout-out to director Herbert Ross, who helmed the original Footloose in 1984.
  6. Sounds good: the movie picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for a Movie or TV Show, but lost out to the animated film Tangled.
  7. Before Craig Brewer signed on to direct, the gig had been intended for High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega.
  8. Funny footwork: when the words "A Craig Brewer Film" appears during the opening credits, those are Craig Brewer's boots dancing across the screen.
  9. Tourist tip: next time you're in Kennesaw, Georgia, you can visit the dance club "Cowboys" from the film.
  10. As opposed to a remake, the project was originally planned to be an adaptation of the successful Broadway musical (which was of course also an adaptation).
